Position Details
  • Title:
  • Mechanical Drafting Engineer, Irvine CA
  • Requirements Essential Function:
  • Prepares clear, complete and accurate working plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches or notes. In order to be successful in this position you must be detail oriented as well as organized and methodical. Must also possess good problem solving abilities, have good communication skills and be a self-starter.
  • Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Full lifecycle product support;
  • Maintain Bill of Material integrity with documentation control compliance;
  • Designing, modeling and debugging designs using 3D software;
  • Product testing and quality assurance;
  • Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation;
  • Maintain standards compliance;
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies/tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (Pro-E & AutoCad) software;
  • Coordinate with and consult with colleagues to design, layout, or detail components and systems, to resolve design or other problems;
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed;
  • Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery, using computer-assisted equipment;
  • Position instructions and comments onto drawings;
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems;
  • Design scale or full-size blueprints of proprietary items or integrated 3rd party items;
  • Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials;
  • Layout and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies and systems;
  • Confer with colleagues to review schematics and answer questions pertaining to products or installation of systems;
  • Draw freehand sketches of designs, trace finished drawings into 3D modeling software for the reproduction of blueprints, and reproduce working drawings on copy machines;
  • Work with and interface with other engineering and manufacturing staff;
  • Lay out, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems;
  • Detail drawings to clarify and emphasize details and dimensions;
  • Qualifications:
  • BS (minimum) degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • 2 - 5 years experience in product design, with at least 5 years in developing engineering grade plastic components;
  • Strong analytical, organizational leadership qualities and project management skills;
  • Strong organizational leadership qualities with a solid team approach;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Team oriented approach with strong technical and managerial expertise;
  • Good planning and project management ability;
  • Experience with Pro-E design software and project management procedures;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities;
  • Self-starter and able to work independently;
  • MS Office literate;
  • Record of Experience:
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the required qualifications. Knowledge of document preparation, document control procedures, business communication etiquette, familiarity with modern office equipment and procedures, and ability to use and learn office computer software programs. Qualified candidates must have experience with Pro E and Auto Cad programs, an excellent track record, outstanding customer service competence, strong people skills and a willingness to work hard.

Must be a self-motivated team player who possesses good communication and strong relationship building skills to organize and direct the work of others and to work with other departments in pursuit of assigned task completion. Must be comfortable working with an evolving company. Must have the ability to receive work direction from the Engineering Manager or other designated leader.
  • Essential Education:
  • BS (minimum) degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 to 5-years of related experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
